Number 3 - MAY/JUNE 2003
- MODERN AGE -
This month we travel back in time 19 years to take a look at DC Sampler #2!

In 2003, DC Comics began publishing a free giveaway comic called DC Horizon, which contained previews of upcoming titles.

But this wasn't the first time they tried this as a marketing tool. In 1984, they released DC Sampler. Unlike Horizon, which prints actually preview pages from upcoming comics, DC Sampler contained original artwork, advertising current and upcoming series, most (all?) of which has not been seen outside of the Sampler.

It's kind of interesting to see which of the titles that DC was promoting in the Sampler have survived the past 19 years.

And the winner is: None of them!!
There are a few titles that continue where others left off, but none of them have been continuously published since 1984.

For example:
The New Teen Titans recently ended a run in The Titans, and soon a new variation of Teen Titans will be hitting the shelves.
Justice League of America has gone through many incarnations in the past 2 decades, currently the highly-successful JLA.
Batman and the Outsiders: After the cancellation of The Titans, Nightwing picks up the reigns of an all-new Outsiders this summer.
Legion of Super-Heroes: A couple of continuity re-boots later, the LSH now stars in a title simple called The Legion.
